Eight vehicles were transferred, although the Kenyan Ministry of Defense did not officially disclose the number. The delivery was the result of a tripartite collaboration between Kenya, the Republic of Korea and the United States. South Korea provided existing helicopters, the United States funded their modernization, and also trained Kenyan pilots and technicians. These machines are not a new type for Kenya. The Air Force has already operated the MD 500 and received six MD 530F aircraft in 2020. The new helicopters will complement the existing fleet and increase the capabilities of the Army's 50th Aviation Regiment.
