Spain's ruling Socialist Party (PSOE) has named Abdella Mustafa, a Muslim community leader of Moroccan descent who has publicly shown support for Morocco, as its Senate candidate for the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in the Nov. 29 election.
Mustafa, president of the Sidi Ambarak neighborhood association, has displayed Moroccan national symbols on social media and has previously defended the behavior of illegal immigrants crossing into Ceuta.
Speaking about the mass migrations, he argued that the immigrants did not come with violent intentions, arguing that they could have taken over the city if that was their goal.
He also organized an emergency shelter for hundreds of illegal immigrants and criticized anti-immigration protests, accusing participants of racism and Islamophobia.
