Denmark has rejected the asylum request of Ghazala, a 24-year-old Iranian woman whose supporters fear she could be arrested, tortured or killed by Iran's Islamic regime if forced to return to her homeland.
Ghazala, who participated in demonstrations to protect women's rights, was ordered to leave Denmark by October 21, 2026. Human rights activist Eddie Wallin publicly appealed to Danish Prime Minister Matt Frederiksen to intervene, warning that her life could be in danger.
According to Iran Human Rights, the Islamic Republic executed at least 664 people in 2026 alone, including 23 women. At least 36 people have been executed in connection with anti-government protests, underscoring the dangers facing Iranians accused of political dissent.
