Palestinian suspects set fire to the tomb of Elazar HaCohen, an ancient Jewish holy site in Kfar Awarta, near Nablus in the West Bank (Samaria).
The photographs of the burning tomb were circulated on Palestinian social networks. The situation room in Judea and Samaria stated that the videos were accompanied by songs glorifying the attack and threatening messages.
The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, arrived alongside Israeli soldiers, religious officials and volunteers to repair the damage. They cleaned, whitewashed and repainted the tomb, and restored the site that night.
Eleazar was the son of Aaron, the brother of Moses, and succeeded his father as the second high priest of Israel. According to tradition, the grave marks his burial place, and it has been the target of vandalism in the past, including graffiti in 2025. Condemning the attack, Dagan compared the perpetrators to ISIS and declared:
"They choose darkness; they choose to burn. We choose light; We choose life. The light will always overcome the darkness. ".
