Trinidadian-American rapper Nicki Minaj, 43, has renewed her campaign against the persecution and killing of Christians in Nigeria, calling on Christians to wake up and urging celebrities and influencers around the world to speak out against the violence.

She explained that her pastor is Nigerian and that her personal connection to the country, combined with reports of attacks on Christian communities, prompted her to speak out.

Minaj questioned why the reported stalking didn't get more attention from celebrities and public figures.

"And I thought, why isn't anybody making a big deal out of it, you know? And sometimes when things aren't cool to talk about, people don't talk about it."

Nigeria continues to experience deadly violence involving jihadist insurgents, armed criminal groups and communal conflicts. Christian communities suffered from targeted attacks.
