First face-to-face contact when the Ukrainian and Russian delegations fly to Oleshki.
The Ukrainian and Russian delegations met face-to-face at the Homyel airport in Belarus before leaving together to oversee a critical humanitarian operation in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshki.
The meeting marked the first face-to-face contact between the two parties to this operation.
Both delegations boarded the same plane to fly from Humiel and begin the mission. They are accompanied by a Newsmax communications team to document the route.
The delegations travel to the town of Olshki in the Kherson region, which is heavily blocked by the Russian occupation.
The goals are to clear heavily mined access roads, provide desperately needed food, water and medical aid, and secure safe evacuation corridors for trapped civilians.
The temporary ceasefire, brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump, officially went into effect on October 27 and has held.
