🇩🇪 Germany's left may not be able to form a coalition because of the fear of Islamist radicals in its own party.
A major political scandal broke out in Berlin after the staff of Alif Arlap, the candidate of the Left party for mayor of the city, mistakenly sent a document to journalists in which she admitted that she feared for the safety of her family because of people in her party with ties to Palestinian radical organizations.
The day before the letter, the party invited the well-known pro-Palestinian activist Ibrahim to a party. He has been linked to support for organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
One of the party's members of parliament, Perat Kokak, was photographed with Ibrahim. CDU representatives have now demanded that the left's potential coalition partners, the SPD and the Greens, reconsider plans to form a joint government, saying they are no longer sure how the left will form a government if they themselves fear an "Islamic environment in their party".
The head of Berlin's Neukellen district said the situation shows how far supporters of anti-Semitic terrorist organizations can be linked to the left-wing party.
