A Polish engineering company has unveiled plans to build a giant 207-meter (679-foot) statue of Jesus Messiah in the northern Philippines, potentially making it the tallest statue of Christ ever built and surpassing any existing statue in the world.
The monument, planned for the province of Ilocos Sur on the island of Luzon, will be more than five times the height of Rio de Janeiro's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue and 25 meters taller than India's 182-meter-tall Statue of Unity.
Szczecin-based engineering firm Slipform completed the conceptual design and submitted it to a Filipino investor following discussions surrounding the visit of Polish President Karol Norucki to Manila.
Slipform CEO Daniel Kisla says the company will be able to build the monument's reinforced concrete supporting core in about 40 days using innovative Polish technology developed in 2023. The massive structure may require up to 27,000 cubic meters of concrete, with its supporting core measuring approximately 49 x 30 meters wide.
