The Kremlin ordered Apple and Microsoft to store and hand over the data of Russian users to security services.
Roskomnadzor, Russia's censorship and media watchdog, added Apple and Microsoft to the list of organizers of information dissemination.
According to the law, they must store data on user actions and communications within Russia for three years and provide them, including the content of messages, to special services in Russia upon request.
For Apple, this could affect iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud Mail, AirDrop, Shared Albums, and Notes. For Microsoft, this covers messaging, calling and work services.
If the companies refuse to cooperate with the FSB, they face large fines in Russia and an eventual ban.
