๐ซ๐ท France recorded the world's first human case of Chamonda virus.
The patient died.
Health authorities said the virus, which normally infects farm animals, had been identified in a human for the first time. In the past it was believed not to infect humans.
The patient is considered infected in eastern France, where the virus circulated among animals in the spring and summer of 2026. Spread by midget bites and mainly affecting cattle, it was first detected in Nigeria in the mid-1960s and is now spreading in several European countries.
The authorities called the case "unusual", and noted that the patient had a severe immune deficiency and was treated in a Lyon hospital for a serious illness.
