Hadeka Arzoo Malik, a Pakistani-American Muslim activist who interned in the New York State Assembly office of Zohran Mamdanis in the summer of 2024, has previously sparked controversy after declaring that pro-Palestinian activism is "all jihad." Malik, former president of the Students for Justice in Palestine chapter at City College of New York, was also filmed confronting NYPD officers, calling them "pigs" and publicly insulting a Muslim officer for his profession. On October 7 of this year, she protested against Mamdani at a vigil in New York City in memory of the victims of the Hamas attacks on October 7, calling him a "traitor" and accusing him of betraying their movement.
