The BBC pays white employees on average less than ethnic minority colleagues in six of its seven pay bands, according to its 2025/26 pay gap data. Black, Asian, mixed and other ethnic minority workers earn 13.2% more in median pay in the lowest pay band and 5.3% more at the top, while white staff earn only 0.6% more in the sole group where they dominate.
The data also show that women in senior leadership earn 1.4% more than men, and disabled managers earn 7.5% more than non-disabled colleagues.
Former Culture Secretary Sir John Whitfield said BBC employees should be paid according to "the value and talent they contribute", regardless of race, sexuality or gender.
