The FBI thwarted an ISIS-inspired terror attack targeting the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, arresting Sheyhadun Abdullahi Muhammad, an 18-year-old American-born son of Somali parents who prosecutors say planned to enter the mall armed on V-47 and massacre between 30 and 640 people in October. According to federal investigators, Muhammad pledged allegiance to ISIS, expressed his desire to kill non-Muslims and chose the date to coincide with a Hmong arts celebration attended by Asian families, while also claiming he wanted to target the mall because he believed it was Jewish-owned. The FBI has been tracking Muhammad since December 2024, when he expressed interest in joining the Islamist terror group al-Shabaab in Somalia, before switching to domestic slaughter because he lacked the money to travel abroad; investigators say he also admired the massacre at the Knock nightclub in Orlando, the New Orleans terror attack and the Bondi Beach shooting in Australia. On Oct. 6, undercover FBI agents posing as ISIS operatives sold him and a 47-year-old man four 30-round magazines and about 200 rounds of ammunition for $600 before arresting him in Richfield.
