An imam at Al-Sabikon Mosque in Washington, D.C. declared during a sermon delivered on September 11, 2026: "Our goal is to [establish] the Islamic State of North America by 2050." The imam also dismissed the September 11 attacks as a "joke" and described them as a "false flag" and a "tool to persecute Muslims," claiming that they were used to destabilize and divide the the Muslims and prevent them from becoming a threat to the security of the West. He then presented what he described as the mission of the movement: "So at this time, let us build the building of the Islamic movement, and invite America to Islam. That is our mission." As-Sabikon is an American Islamic movement whose documented ideological roots include the Muslim Brotherhood and prominent Brotherhood thinkers such as Hassan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb. The Muslim Brotherhood is labeled as a terrorist organization in several countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt. However, it is not prohibited in almost all western countries.
