Three French-Algerians associated with humanitarian organizations have been charged with financing a terrorist organization after investigators revealed that millions of dollars collected under the banner of humanitarian aid to Gaza were diverted to Hamas.
Brothers Fawzi Barika, 35, and Nordin Barika are among the accused. Fawzi co-founded Barca, a humanitarian association founded in 2023 and based in Saint-André-de-Cobzac, near Bordeaux, which describes itself as providing humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
Amal Oualied, 39, president of the Saint Etienne Society, Ensemble C Mieux, was also charged in Paris. US authorities say she helped collect more than $2 million that ended up benefiting Hamas.
The cases followed information provided by US authorities to France.
