Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government is already considering when to start increasing immigration to his country again
"Now the question begins to be: when will we resume some kind of controlled growth in the population, which is the nature of Canada? Then it will happen," he said.
The comments come just over a month before the government must unveil its immigration plan for 2027-2029.
Canada reversed course on immigration after rapid population growth put additional pressure on housing, health care and other services. The government is now targeting 380,000 permanent resident admissions annually by 2028 and aims to reduce temporary residents to below 5% of the population by the end of 2027.
