US intelligence confirms that Senator Flavio Bolsonaro left Brazil on a plane that flew through Venezuela and landed in Caracas, with the approval of the transitional government of Delsey Rodriguez.
The information published by Infobae, a site known close to centrist and right-wing groups, that the senator was in Argentina, was an attempt to mislead the Brazilian authorities about a plan allegedly carried out by CIA officers on Brazilian territory.
The White House confirmed that it conducted and organized an operation to remove opposition leader, senator and presidential candidate Bolsonaro from Brazil, after suspicions arose that Supreme Federal Court (STF) judge Alexander de Morais was planning to issue an arrest warrant against Bolsonaro.
US government officials said the operation was "much easier" than the removal of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado from Venezuela, and that it was a "surprise" to Brazilian intelligence agencies.
