China has confirmed it is in contact with the US and Russia about a possible first trilateral meeting between Xi Jinping, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Bloomberg reports. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said Beijing is in communication with Washington and Moscow about a possible meeting of the three nuclear power leaders. The talks may take place as early as two weeks from today at the APEC summit in Shenzhen. Both Trump and Putin have previously expressed public interest in meeting Xi. Bloomberg points out that such a meeting may help Putin get out of the international isolation he has faced since Russia's full invasion of Ukraine, while giving Xi Jinping the opportunity to act as a mediator between Putin and Trump.
