Hungary plans to cut off Russian gas by the fall of 2027, in line with an EU deadline, the country's foreign minister said. According to Anita Urban, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Hungarian energy company MOL is already preparing its refineries to process non-Russian oil delivered through Croatia's JANAF pipeline. Budapest is also looking for alternative energy sources ahead of the Nov. 21 expiration of its temporary exemption from U.S. sanctions, which currently allows it to purchase oil from Russian companies. Meanwhile, Hungary and the US signed declarations of intent on energy cooperation and counter-terrorism.
