Russian forces killed about 120 clerics in targeted attacks on religious figures and institutions, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with "The Week" on Capitol Hill. "The Russians killed about 120 clerics. Intentionally - not by accident - as a result of targeted attacks on these people, our churches and other religious institutions," Zelensky said. He added that about 800 religious buildings were destroyed or damaged by Russian attacks. Some were up to 1,000 years old. "Some of them were a thousand years old, yet they were subjected to massive attacks by UAVs and missiles - both cruise and ballistic," he said. Zelensky emphasized that the destruction goes far beyond material loss, and affects the cultural and historical heritage of Ukraine. "And it's not about the money. It is about our heritage, our history, art and architecture. You can't just fix them. It is very painful for all of us - and of course, especially for our clergy," he added.
