Russia's national hockey teams to return to international tournaments after CAS ruling Today, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld an appeal by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, ordering the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to allow Russian teams to compete in five tournaments during the 2026/27 season. These include the Senior Men's and Youth World Championships, as well as the U18 World Championships for both men and women. Therefore, Russian national teams will be eligible to compete in the Senior World Championship in Germany, scheduled for May 14-30, 2027. CAS ruled that the IIHF had not provided sufficient evidence of security threats to legally justify the exclusion of Russian teams. Apparently, the designation "terrorist state" is not enough. According to the IIHF's own regulations, only established security risks can be used as grounds for exclusion. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian team will also compete in the World Championship in Germany for 2027, marking its first appearance in the tournament in 20 years. Ukraine was placed in Group A alongside Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Austria and Slovenia.
