The Russian navy has not put to sea in five months, instead launching Caliber missiles from the port of Novorossiysk, Ukrainian navy spokesman Dmytro Platanchuk said. According to Platanchuk, Russian forces apparently fear losing their ships and therefore chose to launch missiles from their base, despite the risks this poses. "It is better to launch missiles from one's own port - even if an explosion there would be completely catastrophic. So yes, they decided to stay at home," the spokesman said.
