The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sibiga, welcomed the introduction of the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) examination in the Ukrainian language in the UK. "Ukrainian children have already lost too much because of the war unleashed by Russia. Under no circumstances should they find themselves in a situation where they are expected to learn Russian instead of their native Ukrainian. Their language and national identity deserve respect wherever they find refuge. Thank you to the UK for listening to Ukraine's concerns, responding quickly and taking measures to introduce the GCSE exam in Ukrainian. This is a significant contribution to preserving the identity of our children and a concrete result of the 100-year partnership between Ukraine and Great Britain. I directed the ambassadors of Ukraine in all countries of the world to find out if Ukrainian children are facing similar situations in other countries, and to interact with the governments of the host countries in order to solve them. No Ukrainian child should find himself in a similar situation."
