The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the admission of the Russian hockey teams to international competitions: "Russia did not stop the war. She did not stop killing Ukrainians. She has not stopped attacking our cities incessantly. So what exactly has changed to warrant the return of Russia's national hockey teams to international competition? The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which effectively legitimizes Russia's participation in the World Championships under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), is unacceptable. The Russian teams represent a country that is still waging a war of aggression. Their return now means giving Moscow the international legitimacy it so desperately craves. I call on the international sports community and all our partners to take a principled stand against the admission of Russia to international competitions. It is impossible to return to the normal order of things while Russia is waging a war against Ukraine. This shameful decision must be reversed. I also call on the governments of countries that have not lost their moral guidelines not to allow Russian hockey players to enter their territory. The Russian war must have consequences, especially in international sports."
