The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses a strong protest against the planned holding of a series of mass events on the grounds of Bakhchisarai Khan Palace from October 31 to November 1, 2026, aimed at glorifying the actions of the Russian Empire in the 19th century, which ultimately led to the forced displacement of thousands of Maa Tarars from their homes. Cold. The Khan's Palace is a monument of history and culture of world significance, included by Ukraine in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Russian Federation continues to systematically wage war against the Crimean Tatar people, their culture, historical memory and world cultural heritage. The criminal actions of the invaders are documented during the monitoring carried out by UNESCO in the temporarily occupied Crimea since 2014. It is worth noting that by organizing such propaganda measures, the Russian attackers are trying not only to justify, but also to glorify their past and present crimes. Such cynical actions of the aggressive state are taking place against the background of the continuation of the so-called "restoration" of the Khan's Palace in Bachisarai, which only worsens the condition of this monument of Crimean Tatar architecture and has already caused several damages. Ukraine has already officially informed the leadership of UNESCO and the member states of the organization about the criminal intentions of the Russians in Bachisarai temporarily. We call on the Director-General of UNESCO, its relevant bodies and the member states of the organization to immediately use all available international tools aimed at stopping the practice of Russia, which temporarily occupied Crimea, turning the cultural monuments of the indigenous Tatar people in Crimea into a tool of imperial propaganda and justifying and glorifying the occupation. We call on UNESCO: to provide a basic assessment of Russian propaganda operations in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
