And against this background, in the summer of 1969, a monument to Lenin was removed in the city of Jacobpiles in Latvia. Moreover, judging by the document, the initiative came directly from the local party leadership: the first secretary of the district committee, and the chairman of the district executive committee.
True, the central question remains, which the document does not answer: why did local leaders decide to remove the monument? Was it an attempt to replace the old monument with a new one, some kind of urban planning decision, or a completely different story? We know that the monument was removed and that this caused serious personal consequences, but the motives for the decision itself remain unknown.
