Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar:
The understandings between Israel and Britain on the issue of the British consulate in East Jerusalem
1. As I announced - the British consulate in Jerusalem finished its duties today. The Consulate General and 20 diplomats (including the Consul General) finish their duties and will leave Israel.
2. The building used by the consulate is the property of the British government. We approved the British government to operate in the building, which is no longer used as a consulate, a task force of only 7 diplomats with a very limited scope of activity.
3. We agreed on a continuation of the dialogue between the governments in the framework of which both sides could raise the important issues for each of them.
We believe in dialogue and will continue to believe in dialogue. Unfortunately, in recent years there has been no real dialogue with the Labor government. This, despite good relations with Great Britain, which are reflected, among other things, in security and intelligence cooperation. The relations between Israel and Great Britain are important, and have repeatedly proven their value also in protecting the lives and interests of British citizens. Only recently did Israel pass on vital information to Great Britain in the RAF Fairford case.
