The European Prosecutor's Office is investigating possible fraud of EU funds on the Spanish high-speed train after the deadly train collision that claimed 69 lives. The European body has opened a second case of its own concerning EU funds allocated to the Madrid-Seville line. Agents from the Spanish Civil Guard's special investigative body, UCO, are seeking records from Adif, the state rail safety agency, and the Court of Audit. According to the organization, the focus is on "possible fraud in the EU funds allocated to renew and improve the safety, signaling and communication systems" of the Madrid-Seville high-speed line, where on October 28 the accident occurred near Orda, in the province of Toledo. The scope of the fraud may increase to 77.5 million euros.
