▪️ Why is the US afraid of Iran's quantum laboratories?
🔹Recently, in October 2026 (Mehr 1405), the US Department of the Treasury issued implementing regulations within the framework of the National Security of Investments Abroad Act (COINS Act), which officially places Iran on the list of "countries of concern". This move prohibits any investment or transfer of technology related to quantum technologies, artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
This action builds on existing export controls imposed by the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) on critical hardware, such as quantum computers with more than 34 qubits and cryogenic test equipment. Its purpose is to impose a comprehensive technological blockade, to prevent Iran from achieving "quantum sovereignty". 🔹In contrast to this technological blockade, Iran has adopted a strategy of "indigenous innovation" within the framework of the "National Document for Scientific Development and Quantum Technologies". With funding of $4 million, Iran has established three advanced quantum optics and information laboratories at Sharif University of Technology, Isfahan University of Technology and Shahid Behashti University.
🔹This strategic move leverages hands-on experiments in quantum entanglement, elite talent training and integration with artificial intelligence and digital twins to neutralize Washington's hardware-based sanctions, thus paving the way for the country's scientific independence.
