A series of cyber attacks against US-owned energy ships continues.
🔹According to the Russian-language media Neftegaz, since August 2026, a series of cyber attacks against oil and gas tankers have been reported, which apparently constitute a targeted campaign against vessels owned by the United States.
🔹The latest incident involves the LPG carrier Botan, under the flag of the Marshall Islands, which fell victim to a cyber attack on October 22, 2026. The ship was en route from Singapore to the Holland Terminal in Texas. Sources familiar with the matter told the Russian-language network that its cargo monitoring and control systems suffered serious disruptions. The captain and owner of the ship confidentially reported the incident to the US Coast Guard. However, due to political sensitivities and volatility in the oil and gas markets, it was emphasized that this information should not be published. 🔹Previously, the Liberian-flagged oil tanker VL Prosperity was attacked near Gibraltar at the end of August. After arriving in Texas, the US Coast Guard and the FBI boarded the vessel and confirmed the presence of a cyber breach. In early September, the Liberian-flagged LNG carrier Vivit Africa was also targeted off the coast of Italy; She experienced serious technical problems and was unable to unload her cargo for several weeks. The Kohaku is another tool involved in this chain of attacks.
