Saudi Arabia's first Typhoon fighter was shot down by the Yemenis
🔹Last week, another milestone in Yemen's air defense achievements occurred, when the country's air defense forces and Ansarullah successfully shot down a Saudi Typhoon fighter jet.
🔹This is the first time in over two decades of the operational service of the Typhoon around the world that the plane has been shot down in the air.
🔹The Yemenis did not reveal the exact type of missile that was used in this attack. However, over the years, Yemen's surface-to-air missile arsenal has seen a wide variety of systems, including missiles developed from older platforms such as the Soviet-made SAM-6, as well as air-to-air missiles designed for ground attack roles, such as the R-27, R-73 and R-77 models. 🔹As can be seen from the photos, the use of thermal optical systems to identify targets and the absence of any response by the Saudi plane until the explosion indicate that Yemen's development of passive detection and targeting systems has progressed significantly. Now, with great confidence, Yemen can effectively operate even the most advanced 4.5 generation fighter jets.
