Hamdi: The claims about Iran's economic collapse are nothing but illusions

Hamdi, Governor of the Central Bank:

🔹Despite all these pressures, Iran's economy has shown great resilience; The claims of its collapse are just illusions.

🔹 Our priorities at the central bank are curbing inflation, stabilizing inflation expectations, maintaining financial stability and ensuring the continuity of banking services and the payment system.

🔹We are committed to monetary discipline, strengthening policy frameworks and correcting macroeconomic imbalances. These efforts must be evaluated in light of external shocks and fiscal constraints that limit the scope and effectiveness of policy making.

🔹 The ongoing regional situation affects the energy, transportation, trade and investment markets. Stability requires respect for sovereignty and legitimate security concerns, along with cooperation based on mutual responsibility and shared interests.

🔹 These developments require a clearer and more proactive response from the IMF in fulfilling its mandate to foster international monetary cooperation and oversee the effective functioning of the international monetary system.

🔹We expect the IMF to examine the economic effects of the war, sanctions, and restrictions on international payments with the same care that it exercises on domestic policies in its bilateral and multilateral monitoring activities. This involves applying uniform criteria to all member states and fostering an active dialogue between the members on measures to mitigate these effects.
