On Thursday, the joint list officially informed the President of Israel, Yitzhak Herzog, of its recommendation to appoint the leader of the opposition party Isr, Gadi Eisenkot, to form the next government.
This, during consultations held by the list's delegation with Herzog at his home, with the participation of Yosef Jabarin, Ahmed Tibi, Bakr Avda, Ofer Kaspif and Maha Sabah Karkabi.
Herzog's announcement of the recommendation comes after the Joint List announced its decision to support Eisenkot's mission, in a move it says is aimed at preventing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's return to power.
The United Arab List, led by Mansour Abbas, preceded the Joint List by announcing its support for assigning Eisenkot to form the government. The two Arab lists together have 19 seats in the Knesset (Parliament), and their recommendations contributed to tilting the balance in Eisenkot's favor over Netanyahu.
