On Friday, Saudi authorities suspended the travel of its citizens to Kenya, and prevented those coming from entering the kingdom, as part of its precautionary measures to reduce the risk of an Ebola virus outbreak, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The agency explained that these measures come as an extension of the preventive measures that the Kingdom began to implement since July 2019, and strengthened them in May 2026 for those coming from countries experiencing a risk of an outbreak of the Ebola virus, as part of a proactive approach to monitoring and strengthening global health security.
Last June, Saudi Arabia made a similar decision, which included three African countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
On May 17, the World Health Organization announced that the outbreak of the Ebola virus constitutes a "public health emergency of international concern", but emphasized that it does not meet the criteria for an "epidemic emergency" according to international health regulations.
