The Israeli prison authorities punished 8 Palestinian prisoners in solitary confinement, after they prepared a cake in the hope of celebrating the departure of the extreme right-wing Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gabir, from his post, following the legislative elections scheduled for Tuesday.

The Hebrew newspaper "Israel Hayom" reported on Sunday that the prison administration moved the eight prisoners to isolation cells, after discovering that they had prepared a cake to celebrate the possible end of Ben Gabir's term.

The newspaper quoted Ben Gabir as saying that inmates at the Lafi prison had been collecting quantities of food for several days to prepare the cake, hoping to celebrate his failure to be re-elected in the upcoming vote.

Ben Gafir added that the prison management discovered the cake and took disciplinary measures against the prisoners, including moving them to solitary confinement.
