On Saturday, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, opened five new museums in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, containing 10,500 antiquities from the palace collection, after the completion of the restoration works of the "Dar al-Darb Complex" buildings and preparing them to display distinct collections of antiquities.
Erdogan said, in a speech he gave during the opening ceremony, that the objects will be shown to visitors starting on Shabbat, as part of the five museums established in the complex after its restoration. He noted that the opening ceremony came after the completion of the restoration work of the new buildings in the complex, which will be used as museums to display distinct collections of Topkapi Palace collectibles.
He emphasized that the Topkapi Palace, which hosted the opening ceremony, is considered a complete masterpiece, adding that the various parts of the civilizational and cultural field that Turkey rebuilt and revived step by step resemble an open museum. Erdoğan said: "I especially want to emphasize that these antiquities are of course important and valuable, and are treasures of our cultural heritage, but the most important thing is that we can preserve this wealth that we have with deep awareness, enrich it even more and completely pass it on to future generations."
