The head of the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus, Judge Fakhr al-Din al-Arian, said on Thursday that the verdict on the deposed president of the regime, Bashar al-Assad, came after evidence was shown of his direct participation in issuing warrants to criminals in the territory who committed crimes against the Syrian people.
Al-Arian added, in messages to the Syrian News Agency (Sanaa), that the court relied on "establishing the responsibility of Bashar al-Assad through the chain of command and command, and evidence documenting his direct participation in giving orders from the top of the pyramid for the realization of the territory", and emphasized that the ruling was not given just because he accepted the position of president.
On August 11, the Fourth Criminal Court sentenced Bashar, Maher al-Assad and 7 other fugitive officials to death in absentia, and in the presence of Ataf Najeeb, former head of the political security branch in Daraa, for crimes of murder, torture, deprivation of liberty, war crimes against humanity and supporting war crimes against humanity, the suppression of demonstrations in Daraa governorate in 2011.
