Guy Fermoulin, the president of the Swiss Confederation, announced his resignation from the federal government, leaving his position at the end of December, after 11 years as a member of the government.
Permolen, 66 years old, announced his resignation during a press conference in the capital Bern, in an atmosphere characterized by comfort and his characteristic sense of humor, and emphasized that his decision had nothing to do with his health.
He explained that he spent the summer thinking about the pros and cons of resigning, before making his decision, noting his desire to make room for "new blood in these times of great uncertainty," adding: "The passion for work is no longer as strong as it was at the beginning."
