The Israeli occupation army confirmed on Friday that two soldiers were killed as a result of its drone explosion in the northern Gaza Strip, as a result of an incident described in the Hebrew media as "friendly fire".

The army explained in a statement that the two soldiers were killed in an accident that occurred in the north of the Gaza Strip, while Hebrew media reported that a military drone crashed inside a military site and then exploded as they approached it.

The Hebrew newspaper "Maariv" reported that the two dead were a reserve sergeant, Ofik Maalim (23 years old), and a reserve sergeant, Nadav Kelly (24 years old), while noting that the soldiers of the 16th Brigade operated a drone in the northern Gaza Strip, and for a reason that it had not yet crashed in Israeli-occupied territory.

She continued: "When the two soldiers approached the drone to check it, it exploded," which indicates that the army stopped operating drones of this type until the initial investigation of the incident was completed.
