The administration of US President Donald Trump has admitted that there were eight suicide attempts among US Navy personnel assigned to work as part of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group during its long deployment to the Middle East during the start of military strikes against Iran, according to a letter from Acting Navy Secretary Hong Kao.
This information was revealed by Democratic representative Kirsten Gillibrand, after she asked Kaw for clarification about the moral conditions and mental health of the group's members, in a letter seen by Agence France-Presse and CNN.
Kao said in his response: "Since the start of the Lincoln Group's deployment, a total of 8 suicide attempts have been recorded," and explained that the number includes the aircraft carrier crew, sailors in the air wing, the strike group command team, the destroyer squadron, the destroyer escort crews and all the aviation squadrons on the squadrons.
