Ireland's data protection authority announced on Monday that it has fined US technology company Google 403 million euros ($463 million) for violating strict EU privacy rules and misusing users' location data.

The Irish Data Protection Commission said its investigation, which began six years ago, found that Google did not process user location data through the Web and App Activity feature in a legal or fair manner.

It is worth noting that the "Web and App Activity" feature tracks users' activity, whether they are surfing or searching the Internet, as well as their data in the "Location History" feature, which is a service that draws maps of the places they have visited using their mobile phones.
