The United States has lifted the last two remaining restrictions of the sanctions imposed on Syria under the US Chemical and Biological Weapons Act, including a ban on arms sales and financing, according to the official Syrian Al-Ihabria channel, on Saturday.
The US Department of State published the decision in the Federal Register under the number "2026-18918", and it went into effect on September 16 this year, after exempting Syria from the sanctions imposed under the law, with the exception of restrictions related to arms sales and financing.
According to the announcement, the US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security stated on August 20, 2026 that lifting the restrictions is "necessary in the national security interests of the United States".
The decision includes the lifting of the ban on the sale of defense materials and services and planning and construction services to Syria, the lifting of the freeze on the issuance of export licenses for materials listed on the American munitions list to Damascus, and the end of the ban on foreign military funding to Syria.
