Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Friday the opening of a factory in his country to assemble drones made in Israel, after admitting last year that his country sold ammunition to Tel Aviv following the outbreak of the war in Gaza.

Vucic said that the factory will produce the "latest equipment" for the Serbian army and the armed forces of other countries, and will provide about 100 job opportunities, adding that his country intends to open at least three more factories "in cooperation with its Israeli partners."

Israel's Channel 12 reported that the project is being carried out in collaboration with the defense industries company Elbit Systems, while the warheads are manufactured at a Serbian weapons factory, after Belgrade signed an agreement worth $335 million with the company last January for the purchase of drones and advanced artillery systems.

The military cooperation between Serbia and Israel has been criticized by international human rights organizations, while Vucic confirmed last year his intention to continue supporting Israel despite the criticism.
