United Nations experts confirmed on Thursday that they have reasonable grounds to believe that US forces were responsible for the attack that targeted the Shajarra al-Taiba elementary school in the Iranian city of Minab, which killed more than 150 people, including about 120 male and female students.
A UN fact-finding mission on Iran said: "It has reasonable grounds to believe that the United States is responsible for two military attacks that targeted a school and a sports facility in Iran in February, and that the attacks constitute war crimes."
The mission concluded that the attack was indiscriminate and caused the death of civilians and damage to civilian infrastructure, which amounted to a war crime under international law, and added: "The failure of the US to update information related to the school in its target databases, and the failure to verify that the building represented a military target, went beyond mere negligence."
