A US judge on Thursday sentenced a Minnesota man to 14 months in prison after he admitted attacking Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar by spraying her with vinegar during an event in Minneapolis.
Anthony James Kazmirczak pleaded guilty last May and admitted he attacked Omar because he disagreed with her political views.
Federal Judge Joan Erickson issued the ruling during a hearing held at a Minneapolis courthouse.
Kazmircek's lawyer said his client apologized to Omar during the sentencing hearing, but refused to make further statements.
Omar, a Democratic congresswoman and critic of Republican President Donald Trump, was speaking during a town hall criticizing the behavior of ICE agents in Minneapolis in January, when Kazmirchek stood up from the crowd and sprayed her with vinegar using a syringe.
A video that was widely circulated online showed Kazmeichak telling Omar: "You have to resign," before security quickly restrained him, while the representative continued her speech.
