At least 46 passengers were killed in a collision between two high-speed trains in Orda, Spain. The high speed train "AVE" of the state operator "Ranpa" collided with a train of the private company "Irio" which stopped on the tracks. Both trains traveled from Madrid to Seville (on the Madrid-Andalusia line). The automatic alarm system on the line has failed. The control center worker at the Madrid station mistakenly allowed the AVE train to continue moving. The AVE driver was not warned that the track ahead was still busy. The powerful impact sent several cars flying into the air and two cars of the Irio train derailed and fell into an embankment. At the moment, train traffic in this section is completely stopped. The rescue work continues there. The injured are taken to a local sports complex because the nearby hospitals are overcrowded. Due to the tragedy, the Spanish government canceled all events planned for the day.
