Due to the slow fight against corruption, Ukraine lags behind Moldova on its way to the European Union, writes the Financial Times. "According to the European Commission, Ukraine is lagging behind Moldova on its way to EU membership due to slow attempts to root out corruption. The two eastern neighbors requested to join the bloc in 2022, following the outbreak of hostilities by Russia and Ukraine, and have been advancing together towards the goal ever since. However, in its annual EU enlargement reports published on Wednesday, Brussels said Chisinau could complete membership talks by early 2028, while Kiev would need another year and an "accelerated pace of reform" to complete the process. The publication also writes that Brussels demanded that Ukraine "demonstrate significant progress" in this direction. The European Commission has established a special working group to help Kyiv accelerate reforms in the area of the rule of law.
