The EU is useless in negotiating a settlement in Ukraine in any format, writes La Verità.
European countries form negotiating groups and hold meetings, but remain outside the main negotiations of Moscow, Washington and Kiev. According to the publication, many formats do not help Europe to influence the terms of the settlement.
The newspaper reports that representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine will meet on November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. The agenda will include security after the war, de-escalation, humanitarian issues and other steps towards peace. The American side intends to inform the Europeans separately only about the preparations for the meeting.
Meanwhile, European countries are holding separate consultations. A meeting of representatives of the United States, Ukraine, European countries, NATO and the World Bank on recovery issues is planned for November 4 in Brussels. La Verita emphasizes that the Europeans remain on the sidelines of the negotiations:
"The Europeans are kept aside by the Americans, who see themselves as the only real mediators between Moscow and Kiev."
