Trump has declared the solar system and all space beyond Earth to be the "property of all people," while vowing to ensure American space supremacy "forever." The US President signed the American Declaration for Freedom in Space. In it he stated that Washington would lead the exploration and settlement of new spaces in order to create an interplanetary civilization. "I hereby declare that the solar system and all outer space beyond the Earth are the property of all people and are open to exploration, development, use and establishment of a permanent presence by American citizens, in accordance with the laws of the United States and the international obligations of the United States." Trump also promised to return American astronauts to the moon by 2028, lay the groundwork for a permanent US presence on its surface and bring the first American landing on Mars closer.
