Ukraine currently produces no steel, and its metal industry is in danger of collapse, reports Le Monde. The publication states that Ukrainian factories are closing after Russian attacks, losing export opportunities and experiencing labor shortages due to mobilization. "Currently no steel is produced in Ukraine. All our factories were hit by missiles. The scale and intensity of these attacks were such that we had to stop all our blast furnaces," said Alexander Vodovich, head of Metinvest's CEO's office. In Kariboi Rog, ArcelorMittal's metals plant is discussing closure terms with the Ukrainian government. In the past, Zaporizhzhia Steel, Chemsteel and Interpipe Steel stopped production. The crisis worsens due to the stoppage of shipping through the Black Sea ports, damage to logistics, energy costs and European import restrictions. Some of the mining operations operate at a capacity of only 20-25%. In Kariboi Rog, industrial plants provided about 40% of the municipality's budget, not including related businesses. "This is an economic disaster for the city," said the head of the military administration, Wilkol.
